Cookies in a Heatwave: A Tradition

Up early to start a load of laundry, get around the island, and start baking cookies before the sun comes around. But I'm already feeling it. We are in the middle of an honest-to-goodness heat wave.
No worries. I made the batter yesterday, so it's only half the task. And right now the kitchen is relatively cool -- a good thing because the cookies turn out better that way.
And anyways, it's sort of a tradition.
We're coming back to the city later today, to begin a three day layover in preparation to return with grandchildren (Insert happy dance here). We were going to leave tomorrow, but thunderstorms are forecast in the wake of all this heat, and it's just easier to travel, not just in the van but in the boat of course, if it's not doing all that.
So. That means a busier day than expected, but it's all for love and I'm in a good space of energy and calm generally, after these two and some weeks, making it more joy than sweat.
The tradition with the cookies? Well, there are those who will get some, and it's for good reason they have become part of the tradition. Afterall, these cookies are about the only thing I can bake with any degree of success. Honest.
So hot or not, I'd best get back to the kitchen.
Stay cool everyone!!!!!
